Mission & Approach

At Help in the Home, our mission is simple and unwavering: to empower adults with complex mental health needs to live meaningful, self-directed lives in the communities they call home.

We believe that every person—no matter their challenges—deserves safety, stability, dignity, and the chance to grow. Our team of dedicated mental health professionals works every day to make that belief a reality.

Through comprehensive in-home support, treatment, and care coordination, we walk alongside our clients with compassion and respect, helping them build the skills, confidence, and connections that make recovery possible. Our work is guided by a core principle: Client Centered and Team Guided, meaning we listen deeply, collaborate closely, and design care that honors each individual’s strengths, values, and goals.

Residential Community

Creating spaces where healing can take root.

Help in the Home’s residential community is located in Rockville, Maryland, a suburb of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. The community provides 15 private bedrooms across five garden-style apartments in a serene, supportive environment where adults can regain stability, practice independence, and reconnect with daily life.

Situated within walking distance of shops, public transportation, a neighborhood park, and Montgomery College, the residential community encourages engagement, learning, and personal growth. Residents benefit from consistent structure, professional support, and opportunities to participate in community life while working toward greater independence.

Residential services include 24/7 on-site staff, care coordination, crisis management, medication management, weekly community meetings, community outings and activities, and support for successful transitioning to other levels of care.

In-Home Care Coordination

Supporting independence with purpose and flexibility.

Across the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, many Help in the Home clients live in homes of their own choosing. In-home care coordination services are designed in partnership with each individual to reflect their unique needs, goals, and aspirations.

There is no template for this work. Every care plan is built intentionally, with a focus on strengthening daily routines, building long-term stability, and supporting each client’s vision for their life. Services promote overall wellness while helping individuals develop practical skills needed for independent living.

In-home care coordination services include coordination of medical and psychiatric care, crisis management, medication management, 24-hour on-call support, skill-building in daily living, socialization, and vocational goals, meal planning to support nutritional wellness and healthy weight management, assistance with budgeting, and support in locating and coordinating care with specialized providers.

In-Home Treatment

Bringing essential care to those who need it most.

For individuals who are unable to access office-based services, therapists and psychiatric nurse practitioners from Help in the Home’s sister company provide treatment directly in the home. This approach ensures continuity of care, builds trust, and removes barriers to receiving high-quality mental health treatment, allowing individuals to receive services in a familiar and supportive environment.

Family Consultation

Empowering families with knowledge, guidance, and partnership.

Families play a crucial role in supporting adults with serious mental illness, yet they often face complex decisions with limited information or support. Help in the Home offers family consultation services that provide education, guidance, and collaborative problem-solving.

Through these services, families receive clarity and compassionate support, helping them navigate challenges with confidence while ensuring they are not carrying the responsibility alone.
